Salt Spring Island Golf Club is a Beautiful Golf Destination

If you’re looking for a beautiful golf vacation, Salt Spring Island Golf Club is a 9-hole, 3037-yard course on the picturesque Salt Spring Island, BC. The gently rolling fairways undulate their way through water features and mature forests. The course is situated at the northeast slopes of Mount Erskine, which provides a spectacular backdrop for many of the holes. The Golf Club is just minutes from the beautiful little community of Ganges, the hub of restaurants, gracious destination lodgings– like Mariner’s Cove, art galleries, and the source for all your essentials.

The Salt Spring Island Golf Club was established in 1928 when it was difficult for Salt Spring Islanders to reach one of the three golf courses on Vancouver Island. It is one of the oldest courses in western British Columbia, and the longest operating course in the Southern Gulf Islands.

Over the years, it has seen several upgrades, including going from sheep-grazed fairways to well-groomed grass, artfully placed tree plantings, strategically placed bunkers, and a reservoir. Irrigation was installed over the last decade, keeping it green over dry summers, and better drainage is another improvement for year-round play.

The Clubhouse has also undergone a transformation. Before being rebuilt in the 1900s, there was only an old farm shack for storing clubs. The new clubhouse offers locker rooms and a dining facility.

This Golf Club is another great reason to call Salt Spring Island your recreational dream destination. Now on its way to celebrating its 100th birthday, we invite you to come to visit Salt Spring Island Golf Club and this beautiful, one-of-a-kind heritage course. It is a must-do experience for golfers and travelers alike.

The Course

With 70 acres of rolling landscaped fairways, this is not just a golf course; it is a golfing experience. The course includes two par 5 holes, two par 3 holes, and the remaining par 4 holes. For those who want to play 18 holes, the course provides alternate tees for a full-length “Back 9.” A shorter course of 2760 yards is provided by a set of forward tees, which designate a men’s par 35 and a lady’s par 37.

The Walk-Through reveals that there is ample landing area on the fairways, although if carefully placed, you can achieve good lies and angles for your second shot. The greens are of average size, and most have a medium roll, but many greens have large breaks and require a more creative approach that changes with pin placement.

There are some fairly challenging holes, like the 7th and 9th holes, and an absolutely stunningly picturesque 4th hole, which is a par 4.

Club Facilities

Downstairs in the Clubhouse is the Pro Shop. The Salt Spring Island Golf Club Pro Shop has a significant arrangement with Golf Town, allowing them to supply you with everything offered on the Golf Town website. Anything you’ll need for a day on the course can be found at the Pro Shop. They also have a complete practice facility.
